Spread Gods Love! Why I started Chasing Hoops

I think it’s funny how, when we’re kids, we dream big and we dream often. But as we grow older, through experiences and obstacles, those dreams start to fade. We begin to settle. We start accepting life for what it is. We lose the joy in dreaming and in the process, we lose ourselves.
I was one of those people.
I was a kid who dreamed big, but over time, through hardships and trauma, I lost myself. I didn’t know who I was anymore. I settled for working 9-to-5 jobs. I was smoking weed, drinking, chasing women, I was no longer the person who loved to dream and create. I was in darkness.
But it was in that darkness that I was introduced to the light. The light that changed my life forever.
I’ve always loved to play basketball. It was like an outlet for me. Whether I was feeling down or happy, I would go hoop, it was just something I loved to do. I never would’ve thought God would use it for His greater purpose.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was hooping in my backyard like I usually did every day, and it came to me: “Chasing Hoops.” I knew it came from God. As soon as I heard it, I immediately went to write it down. I created emails, website domains, and social media pages so no one else could take the name. I was excited. I made logos and other designs, the dreamer in me was starting to come back.
The only bad part about it was, I didn’t fully start it. I didn’t go all in. I just wrote it down as an idea and left it there.
Long story short, I quit the job I had been working at for four years. I started chasing money and opportunities at another job I didn’t care about and had no passion for. I ended up quitting that one, too. Then I got another job delivering medicine, but I felt empty at that job as well. I had bills to pay. I had my children. The pressure and stress started piling up. One day, I broke. I said to myself, “That’s it! It’s time to go all in on Chasing Hoops!”
Looking back now, I realize that God allowed all that pressure to push me into finally starting the dream.
Sometimes, God has to let us get uncomfortable to get us to move or act on something. It’s all out of His love for us, and it definitely worked for me, because I haven’t stopped working on Chasing Hoops since that day. Anytime I’ve felt like giving up, He’s always brought me back into alignment. He is the main reason why Chasing Hoops is still running strong today.
When I started Chasing Hoops, I saw it as nothing more than a clothing brand. But the Lord expanded that dream and gave me a greater vision. Now, I see it as a vehicle. A vehicle that will travel across the world and open doors for basketball players everywhere.

Our mission is to reach those who’ve stopped dreaming, those who are stuck in darkness, and lead them to the Way, the Truth, and the Light: Jesus Christ. It was His love that brought me back to life, and I want to share that holy, one-of-a-kind love with the world. I want everyone to experience it, because I’ve seen firsthand the wonderful things it has done for my life. I know that the love of God can change someone’s entire destiny, and Chasing Hoops is the vehicle that will help make it happen.
There’s a lot more to this story, but this is just a brief summary.
The main reason I started Chasing Hoops is to give God glory and help advance His kingdom. Chasing Hoops isn’t just about chasing basketball, it’s about chasing God and spending eternity with Him.
